L’expansion de cette mouvance, qui prit localement le nom de la « Mission Salut et Guérison », constitua un défi pour l’Église catholique. Face au succès remporté par ces pentecôtistes, les responsables de l’institution romaine acceptèrent et favorisèrent l’émergence d’un « contre feu » : le Renouveau charismatique. La comparaison entre les deux îles sœurs montre comment ce Renouveau est venu contrebalancer l’offre protestante en matière religieuse. Néanmoins, tout en favorisant son développement les deux diocèses ont veillé à « reprendre en main » le Renouveau charismatique en le conformant à l’orthodoxie catholique et en le soumettant aux autorités ecclésiales. In the late sixties, the Assemblies of God have settled in Reunion and Mauritius islands. The expansion of this movement, which took the local name of "Salvation and Healing Mission", represented a challenge to the catholic Church. Faced with the success of these Pentecostal officials leaders of the roman institution accepted and favored the emergence of a counterweight : the charismatic renewal. The comparison between the two sister islands shows how this renewal came to offset the protestant offer in religious matter.
