Afin de justifier la politique séculaire de la France en Algérie, d’établir un pont entre les deux rives de la Méditerranée, le reportage s’adresse à un jeune écolier métropolitain et enjolive le réel. Si l’imaginaire colonial des années 1930 est bien réactivé, la réalité de l’après-guerre est passée par là : la confrontation des actualités filmées avec d’autres sources, iconographiques ou écrites, publiques ou privées, montre les ressorts d’une stratégie de communication. On 3 October 1956, in the midst of the internationalisation of the Algerian war and the acceleration of the military pacification operations carried out by the French government, the Pathé Journal newsreels devoted a long report to Algeria. In order to justify France’s age-old policy in Algeria and to establish a bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean, the report is addressed to a young metropolitan schoolboy and embellishes reality. If the colonial imagination of the 1930s is reactivated, the reality of the post-war period has been here: the confrontation of filmed news with other sources, iconographic or written, public or private, shows the mechanisms of a communication strategy.
