La fin de la guerre froide entraîne la chute des mercenaires aux Comores et la fin de l’apartheid en Afrique du sud sans remettre en question, en revanche, la réorganisation opérée précédemment de la géographie militaire de la France. Geostrategic logics of Cold war in the Western Indian Ocean explains the installation of French mercenaries in the Comoros between 1978 and 1989. This “global time” makes France redeploying its presence in the region and its strategic military bases from Djibouti to the Island of Reunion. Its attention is focused on the Mozambique Channel (Scattered Islands) but France also the “local time” of Ahmed Abdallah’s regime in the Comoros linked to South Africa. The end of Cold war leads to the fall of mercenaries in the Comoros and to the end of the apartheid in South Africa.
