Since 2011, glass furniture has been examined as part of preventive and planned archaeological excavations in the Antilles Islands, French Guyana and the Indian Ocean Islands. At the same time, a research program was launched in 2022 on Reunion Island to study the glass artifacts discovered on the island since 2012 and understand their use, their origin, their age in order to help interpret the occupations. This research raises the hypothesis of a new name for glass: agro-industrial glass linked to distilleries, in a colonial plantation economy from the 17th to the 20th century.

The still recent development of preventive archaeology in Mayotte has led to several interventions on the rock of Dzaoudzi, the course of human occupation of which was only perceptible in oral traditions. These interventions have made it possible to discover remains dating back to the 13th century and a continuity of occupation until the sultans of the Tsingoni decided to settle on the rock to make it their capital, which would then become the seat of colonial power in 1841.

Comoros islands are a balkanized archipelago since their independence era. There are two different states, Comoros’ State and the French department of Mayotte. Anjouan island had also known a secession during a civil war of Comoros from 2000 to 2008. Divisions are not the result of history’s accidents but follow a pattern of secessionisms. A study of this problem with a cultural geography and geopolitics will light these separatisms in Comoros Islands. The thesis aims to understand Comoro’s secessionisms as linked conflicts, in the case of Mayotte as in the case of Anjouan in a global approach.
