Après l’arrivée de la gauche en France en 1981, la célébration de l’abolition de ce système inique d’exploitation des êtres humains par d’autres êtres humains est devenue possible. Le 150e anniversaire de cette abolition en 1998 a été célébré avec faste. La patrimonialisation de l’esclavage est aujourd’hui une nécessité, non seulement sur le plan touristique, mais aussi sur le plan identitaire. During more than 150 years, slavery exists in Reunion Island, nevertheless that unfortunate time was forgotten. After coming to power of the left in France (1981), the commemoration of the abolition that sinister system was possible. The celebration in 1998 of the hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the abolition of slavery in France was an auspicious time.
