En restant avant tout un « objet construit et produit », la nature de la carte touristique n’est que le reflet d’une pensée développée sur cette activité à la fois par les chercheurs (en tourisme) et par les acteurs du développement local dans le cas de La Réunion. C’est donc moins dans une redéfinition de la carte touristique que se situe le fond de l’interpellation que dans celui d’une réinvention de pensée touristique. Sans éluder la question du Président de la FRT et en « jouant le jeu », nous avons accepté d’analyser le corpus des cartes touristiques de l’île dans une approche diachronique pour souligner la propriété du document cartographique à constituer une forme d’autobiographie du développement touristique de La Réunion. The origins of this article reside in a questioning by the President of the Reunion Island Federation for Tourism (Fédération Réunionnaise du Tourisme) bearing on the implied and well-hackneyed classicism of the format of the tourist map in its graphic representation. As a « constructed and produced object », the nature of the tourism map is a mere reflection of a particular thought developed around this activity by both researchers (in tourism) and by those involved in local development, in the case of Réunion. The crux of this question raised in this paper is therefore not so much the redefinition of the tourist map as the rethinking of the tourist potential.
